Simple Duck Recipes for Long Weekends

When the long weekend rolls around and you want to get creative in the kitchen, duck is a great choice. With its versatility and delicious taste, everyone will enjoy these fun and tasty duck recipes!

Duck à l’Orange Kebabs

The first step in this recipe is dicing the duck breast into 2-inch chunks. Next is the marinade. To make this flavorful marinade, mix orange juice, soy sauce, honey, garlic and ginger. Cover the diced duck breast in the marinade. Allow the duck to sit and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. This helps the duck absorb as much flavor as it can while not overpowering the delicious taste. While the duck is in the fridge, cut the oranges. Slice the oranges into 1-inch-thick quarters. After chopping up the oranges, grab the green onions and cut them into 1–2-inch pieces. Next, make sure your grill is clean and preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

Once the duck has sat for about 30 minutes, remove it from the mix and set aside the sauce for later. In a saucepan, bring the reserved marinade to a boil over medium-high heat. After that, you can then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes until it thickens into a glaze.

Place the marinated duck chunks, orange slices, and green onion pieces onto skewers. Let the duck, oranges and green onion cook for about 8 minutes on the grill. Make sure to turn them frequently to prevent them from burning and to ensure the duck is evenly cooked and crisps up just right. For the final hint of flavor, when the duck is nearly done, brush the kebabs with the leftover marinade that was boiled into a glaze. Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Serve with the remaining sauce for a dip and enjoy this fun take on a classic duck dish! Find the full recipe below!

Buffalo Duck Dip

This simple dish is perfect for a big crowd! Start by preheating your oven to 375°F. Once the oven is ready, place the Duck Confit in the oven. Bake the Duck Confit for 15 minutes to heat it thoroughly. This will also help it to achieve a slightly crispy texture that complements this dip perfectly.

While the confit is cooking, it is time to prep the rest. In a cast iron pan set over low heat, mix together cream cheese, ranch dressing, and hot sauce. Stir these ingredients together until thoroughly blended and smooth. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for around 2-3 minutes. This will allow the flavors the opportunity to meld together.

Once the confit is done, carefully remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Once it is cool enough to touch, shred the Duck Confit into bite-sized pieces.

When the base of the sauce is done simmering, stir in the shredded duck confit along with crumbled blue cheese. Once the duck and cheese are evenly distributed throughout the creamy sauce, transfer the pan to the oven. Bake the entire mixture for an additional 20 minutes. When the top of the dish displays a golden and bubbly look and the edges are slightly crisped, take it out of the oven and let it set.

Garnish the recipe with scallions. Serve and enjoy this rich, savory blend of duck, cheese, and creamy goodness with friends and family this holiday weekend. Find more information on this recipe below.

Smoked Whole Duck

This recipe requires 24-36 hours to marinate but if you prep it’s marinade a few days early, you can throw it on the smoker during lunch and it will be ready to eat by dinner! Mix the specified list of ingredients: paprika, ground ginger, cumin and an assortment of other delicious spices and ingredients, thoroughly and set it aside. To prep the duck, begin by removing the backbone. To do this, you will need to use a sharp knife or poultry shears to cut along both sides of the backbone then lay the duck skin-side up.

Apply the dry rub all over the duck, both inside the cavity and on the outside of the skin. Once it is seasoned, place the duck in the fridge and let it marinate for up to 24 hours.

After it has marinated for a day or longer, begin by preheating the smoker to 200°F and adding in wood chips, such as hickory or hardwood. This helps to infuse the duck with a rich, and famous smoky flavor. When the smoker reaches the required temperature, put the marinated duck on the grate and smoke it for 3 ½ hours. When the smoker timer is winding down, preheat the oven to 400°F. When it is finished, take the duck out from the smoker and move it to the oven. Finish cooking the duck by roasting it in the oven for about 20 minutes. The final step is what helps give the duck a perfectly crispy skin and it helps render off what is left of the fat.

Once the duck is done and has rested, carve and enjoy! Find the complete recipe below.
